12 Inch 3 Is Catalogued, 4's Date TBD!

12 Inch 3Rodrigo has been putting a lot of work into this. I'm glad he sold a bunch of his pieces. He's going to keep mine until the next show, date TBD. I've made a connection with a guy in London who uses stencils to create portraits of musicians on vinyl. Though he doesn't use albums by the subject, the compositions are cool and the color layering pretty nice. We hopefully will be able to team up for exhibitions in London at some point. It is still where we'd eventually like to move.

I did get one done today, Dylan for the Florida Music Festival. I like the new photo I'm using. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Peace.

Art And Music Together

Vinyl Art - Daniel Edlen - package received - ArizonaWhew. Rodrigo received them up in Canada. That's him holding my James Brown. They've gotten some comments already on Flickr, so hopefully they'll get a good response at the show. It's been publicized in Juxtapoz, which I think is a pretty big deal.

I've started on the ones for the Part Art Show in Manhattan's Lower East Side. I'll throw up a couple photos tomorrow. I think I'm going to do 8, including Mick Jagger and Lou Reed.

Another blog has posted an interview with me, pretty cool to be approached for free publicity! Nicely written intro too.

On a different note, I'm looking into a way to transfer my vinyl to MP3 files. In the SkyMall catalog that I perused on the way to Austin I found the iRecord, a little white box that takes the normal RCA inputs for audio/video and outputs to USB storage devices, including iPods. I think it'd be more useful than the USB turntables because we could also use it for audio and video cassettes. Other than CNET I couldn't find much about it online that I'd consider reliable. Has anyone used this magical blinking box?

The Search For Answers

I'm going to Austin for a week to help my sister-in-law out for a bit. The memorial for Jason is on the 8th at the community clubhouse I think. So that'll give me some time away from here to think about things, seek answers, maybe reach some conclusions. Who knows, maybe even an epiphany'll hit me. I do have a couple inspired ideas to write about when I get back.

My contest winner did choose Jerry, so I'll be on the quest for the Dead albums he likes the most while I'm in Texas. I'll be able to check out Wild About Music too. They've sold so many of my pieces and I haven't even met them in person yet!

The Bono is on its way to Utah and the three for the 12 Inch show are off to Canada! The customs form was much simpler than I expected, and USPS service was cheap! No tracking, but supposedly smoother going through customs. I found another vinyl art show scanning through my blog log, this one in the lower eastside of Manhattan! They had a link to my blog and said I had influenced their decision on a theme for their upcoming show! Kinda neat, backwords searching. So, along with the Florida Music Festival, I've got a bunch to paint. I'm doing these pieces naked, not framing them, just clearcoating them. Makes for easier shipping and maybe a more dramatic art show presentation. I think for most I'll keep framing them with the album sleeves, but certainly if I don't have the sleeves or it's a double album, this way looks pretty cool.

This is sort of a rambling post about looking for stuff, so I wanted to say that I get some hits from some strange Google searches. People seem to come and go quickly, which I understand, because most of the time I haven't said too much about their search topic, but I wish you would stay. I've found some great sites and made some nice connections by accident while searching. So stick around, check out my art and maybe read a bit. I still wish I could display all my posts in chronological order, as they read maybe better as a journal, but I did put a link to my very first post over to the right. That way you can always "go back to the beginning", as Inigo said in one of my favorite movies.

So, I'm off to pack. I'll check in and respond to comments, but I probably won't post for a week. But please stay tuned! You could even subscribe!

Peace.

"Ich bin ein Berliner!" or I'll Ship There, At Least

This one's for a show coming up in March up in Canada: Art in Vinyl 3. I found out about these shows from a cool artist involved with them, Rodrigo Pradel. This brings up a good point to clarify about my contest and my work in general. I can ship internationally. I've set up my PayPal account to allow for it, charging $50 for shipping (it's $10 for shipping within the US). I looked at the USPS site for priority international mail rates and found that to be around the right amount, with packages delivered in about 2 weeks. I still have to find out about the customs forms, but that hopefully won't be too complicated.

I'm also telling you about this because in the last couple of weeks, a site in Brazil and one in Germany have put up those posts about me, bringing huge traffic both to here and to my gallery site. The one in Germany included me in what looks like a daily video too! A magazine in Italy might do a profile on me in March as well.

So, anyway, I wanted to make sure you knew the contest is open to anybody. Also, your entry doesn't have to be a new creation. Paticus entered this blog post, which is exactly the kind of story I'm after. So it could be a photo you took years ago that you've already scanned in and posted on Flicker or whatever, as long as it's your creation about a story from your life.

My homepage seems to be directing visitors to my contest, so I guess the added link is working. If you want to tell your friends and family about my contest:

CHECK OUT MY WEB... oh wait, I already linked to my gallery site. Sorry, my bad. Peace.
