Blog Action Day 08: I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For [EC]

Bono

This year, Blog Action Day is about poverty. I've painted Bono because of his passionate history of working to make our world better. It is in us. We can be better.

The problem is that we think "better" means we need to do something to get there. Again, it is in us. Already.

WHAT are we looking for?
What are we LOOKING for?

We don't need to look. We just need to acknowledge. To listen, to understand, to love. This applies to everybody and everything, as it is.

Action will follow once we recognize that everything is already within us. When we have allowed ourselves to love our selves as we are, we won't compare our selves to others, we won't beat our selves down, we won't get mad at others for seeming to be in better circumstances, we won't try to beat them down, we won't get scared of getting worse, we won't attack things and people different from us. We won't take, we won't hurt, we won't destroy. We won't cause poverty of spirit, mind and body.

We will bring out what is good in all of us. We will love us. We will unite. We will give, we will heal, we will create. We will rise above poverty.

The other reason I've painted Bono is that, as part of my taking action to make things better, this piece is one of my Elliott Collection paintings for charity. The deal is $100 of the $175 price for the framed piece goes to a charity of your choice. You send me 2 checks, one to the charity, one to me. I send the charity check off to that charity in your name.

That ties the piece to your memory of giving as well as helps me change the world, getting us closer to

Peace.

Open Your Heart [EC]

Madonna Early on Madonna involved herself in charities, helping raise money for the fight against AIDS among other causes. This October 15th, Blog Action Day will raise awareness and hopefully funds for humanity's social dilemma of poverty. You can join in! Go to their site and sign up to participate. Oprah just re-ran her special with Anderson Cooper about the hidden population living in terrible poverty, so maybe she's going to be involved too!

About a week ago I was impressed by an ad from the Ad Council. Don't Almost Give is sponsored by them, providing connections to other organizations that help humanity. There are opportunities to get involved physically and financially. These are the types of charities I was thinking of when I decided to start my Elliott Collection [EC]. My goal is to get you involved or to encourage your continued support of your favorite charity.

All posts labelled [EC] are related to a painting that you can buy for $175 with $100 of that going directly to a charity of your choice in your name. My brilliant dad suggested I set it up thusly: you send me 2 checks, one for $75 to me and one for $100 to the charity. I'll forward the charity check to them and you'll get all the membership information from them. Then you'll have a great piece of art that you relate to musically and which becomes a connection to help humanity.

You're making my art more special! You're helping me achieve my goal with my art: connecting and communicating with people passionate about creativity and culture.

Listen. Understand. Love.

Peace.

Do Work!

Johnny Cash - (i) inspired by photo by Jan Olofsson

The Man in Black is definitely giving Zep a run for their money in popularity, at least as far as my paintings go. A collector already bought the one I had done for Newport Nights at Primitive Kool before they even publicized them! They asked if I could do another one for the show so they could sell that one along with paintings of Johnny Cash from a couple other artists. So, I did work! This one is on the Pickwick release "Walk the Line". I had to reunite it with it's cover at the record store because it's a bit warped and they were going to sell just the sleeve. Doin' my part!

Speaking of my part, apparently Blog Action Day was a huge success. They took down most of their site so I had to put the banner image on my site. Makes sense, though, to streamline their site. They probably didn't want some 20,000 blogs hitting their site constantly for those banners. In any event, feel free to use my copy. You can find it in my previous post:

Blog Action Day - Make It More Than A Day

Fits right in. I recently considered the recycling, repurposing, reuse aspect of my artwork:

So, here I'm wandering online and I happen to find Emily Chang and the post on eHub about today in the blogosphere. Since I'm a reasonably active blogger, I thought I'd do my part to spread the idea. Especially since my artwork has a bit of a connection to at least saving landfill space.
